It's business time....

Conditions are perfect...for laying eggs.
They have everything they need. Warm dry nesting area. More food than they could ever eat. Fresh, dry straw. Protection from predators. Loving children to keep them on their toes. I hope we get some eggs soon. I have a feeling they are laying eggs somewhere that we haven't discovered yet. Oh well. Its entertainment for guests now. The kids love it too. I could really care less at this point. My part is finished and I broke down and bought a carton of eggs today. I downloaded some 'how-to' on cleaning chickens this weekend. It seems pretty easy. It may come in handy at some point.

It'll take them a few days to get acclimated to their new location. The short days play into it also. They'll start laying soon.

they lay more in the warmer months. ours DID lay somewhere else for about 3 weeks. by the time we found them, the pile was as big as the hen sitting on them. so many wasted eggs...

Chris...several "country boy" ideas I got from my Grandpa..
He used to raise chickens as well as Pheasants for the game clubs. Shorter days (winter) mess w/a fowl's circadian rhythmn something fierce. Artificial light helps regulate them, as the best cycle is a 12hr for production. Gathering the eggs at the same time daily also helps the hens to "keep on schedule".
However-
If they don't begin to lay soon, I have some WONDERFUL recipes for chicken, and the hutch you built for them can be turned into multiple forts, rocketships, or hideouts for the kids! Good luck
