My son has been looking for a new bench for what he calls a fort. His fort consists of a clearing under 15 foot tall butterfly bushes in our back yard. They are enormous. They provide wonderful shade and look out to the entire backyard. The chickens love this spot as well.
So after looking at $300 garden benches, I woke up and asked Jake if we should make one. I made it up as we collected scrap wood from around the yard. The pieces went together beautifully. They love the new bench. I soaked it in linseed oil. I think the blessed chickens will like it as well. It hasn't even dried yet and there is crap on it all ready.
Another story, I was working on the bench today and Julianne wanted to sit on it with her stuff. I asked her in passing, "Please pick up your stuff." And she replied "Opps, yep, let me get my CRAP" I rounded the corner, then laughed. I guess I say crap too much. Oh well.

Hey, I really impressed by reading the article. Excellent info about Outdoor seating benches.
i can't even imagine Julianne saying that! maybe she's been reading your chicken blogs...
Just when we think our children never listen to what we say, they show us just how much we affect them daily.
At least she wasn't saying something worse. She was referring to her collection of stuff, collectively known as "crap". I think this is much better than what Grandpa Voss called it on the farm back in the day.
I love the bench. Now, Jakers needs a shooting stand for his bench in the fort . . . I see a great place for something like a slingshot or a blowgun - whatdya say Pops?
It's not shown, but there is a gun rack on the back of the bench. Also he has a carpet of sod in his fort now too.
Chris, It's Sean..Good to see ya building things w/the boy and showing him not EVERYTHING has to come from a store.Sometimes, it's better to make it yourself. Impressive.
side note. Moving in two months. Phone is off right now, stop by if you'd like to. Good to see you Chris. Peace
